Childrens Happiness : Children are the greatest happiness for many parents. So do children make you happy or unhappy?
The birth of a child initially triggers an enormous feeling of happiness in the parents. It’s just an indescribable moment to hold your child in your arms for the first time. A child can be the conclusion of a couple, and the parents are proud to have finally started their own family. But as soon as everyday family life returns, the feeling of happiness decreases, and children wrench the partnership, some believe.
The others believe that only through their children have they become really happy and satisfied people and see their children as an enrichment. The question of whether children make you happy often leads to lively discussions among parents, but also among scientists.
Childrens Happiness : Children Make You Unhappy?.

Parents experience strong feelings through their children – positive and also negative. They can be very proud of their child and feel true love, but can also be gripped by severe fears and anger. According to various studies – such as the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock – children do not increase their parents’ life satisfaction. You feel after giving birth to their first child more unhappy. Rather, the parents are overwhelmed, stressed, and depressed. They have less sex and are generally less satisfied with their partnership.
Lack of sleep, arguments among the spouses, and the loss of freedom cause the many negative feelings to arise. This can go so far that some parents regret having even given birth to a child, which has recently been shown in the debate about regretting motherhood. Then the parents will probably decide against more children. This is especially true for highly educated women and men over 30 years of age. You feel life with a child rather as a limitation and therefore, no longer want children.
The more unhappy new parents are, the less likely it is that the child will have a sibling. It may remain an unhappy only child because the parents’ attitude towards life also always affects the child. In sad cases, couples even separate because they have imagined life differently as parents and hope to be (again) happier as a single.

Psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky did not want to leave these studies like this and interviewed many parents. The result was that parents experience more positive feelings as soon as they spend time with their children. Fathers, in particular, were at a higher level of happiness than childless men. Fathers felt more meaning in life than men without children. Also, older parents are happier than young parents. And they are happier than childless people.
The sociologist has examined the effects of income on parents’ satisfaction. According to him, a higher income doesn’t necessarily make you happier. The reason is that often both parents work a lot, which can quickly lead to excessive demands.
Middle-income parents are happier in their first few years with a child, and inactive mothers, in contrast to full-time mothers, are significantly happier than childless women. And of course, happiness and satisfaction are also evident in the children. They feel more comfortable, loved, and accepted by mom and dad when they consider their family to be happy.
